French Communication Specialist

Location: Ottawa (hybrid)

The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is looking for a bilingual communicator and collaborative content creator to join our team of diverse professionals committed to supporting evidence-informed policy in Canada.

The CCA convenes experts to assess the evidence on complex topics of public interest to inform decision-making in Canada. We produce high-quality, bilingual reports designed to strengthen policy and practice by providing decision makers with the best-available evidence. The French Communication Specialist enhances the impact of that work by maintaining the quality of our French-language products and processes and enhancing the mobilization and uptake of CCA reports among francophone audiences. They also plan and create communication products — from research summaries to infographics to videos to events — in both English and French. 

The French Communication Specialist reports to the Director of Communications, but actively participates as a member of multiple project teams.

Responsibilities

French-language content lead (40%)

  • Review translated content to ensure accuracy and accessibility, including assessment reports, corporate documents, and communication products
  • Liaise with translation contractors and research teams
  • Maintain translation tools and processes, including the CCA French style guide 
  • Translate short texts
  • Monitor and curate French-language media and social media
  • Build and maintain relationships with French-language stakeholders
  • Support the director of communications with French-language media relations

Corporate and assessment communications (60%)

  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of corporate communication activities, including the CCA website, newsletters, social media content, and annual report
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of communication activities related to CCA reports
  • Produce accessible content to enhance the visibility and uptake of CCA assessments (news releases, infographics, videos, summaries, Q&A) across a variety of platforms

Requirements

  • A university degree in a relevant field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Superior oral/written communication skills French
  • Strong oral/written communication skills English  
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of multidisciplinary professionals
  • Expertise in creating accessible, evidence-based and creative content across a variety of platforms
  • Experience presenting complex information in a variety of ways — writing, graphics, video
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with common layout and design tools, including Canva
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media principles and practices
  • Experience working in a research or science-based non-profit
  • Significant experience with translation and demonstrated ability to perform brief translations
  • Superior attention to detail

Bilingualism is essential for this position. Language testing may be required for all candidates.
