Robert Peterson is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia and Senior Associate Clinician Scientist at the Child & Family Research Institute at BC Children’s Hospital. He is also the Executive Director of the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN), a joint venture of Health Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Dr. Peterson received a MD and a PhD in pharmacology from Yale University in 1974. He completed a Master’s of Public Health at Harvard University’s School of Public Health in 1996. He has authored numerous papers and chapters in pediatric clinical pharmacology and toxicology.

He has been Director, Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Colorado, Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine, and also Director of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute. Dr. Peterson has served as Director General of the Therapeutic Products Directorate at Health Canada. Appointed to the Canadian Expert Drug Advisory Committee in 2005, he has been its Chair since 2008. Dr. Peterson is Chairman of the Regulations Advisory Board of the Centre for Innovation in Regulatory Science. He is the former director of Child Health, BC.
