Dr. Meric S. Gertler, C.M., FRSC is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Program in Planning, and holds the Goldring Chair in Canadian Studies at the University of Toronto. He is also Interim Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and co-directs the Program on Globalization and Regional Innovation Systems at U of T’s Munk Centre for International Studies.

His research interests are in regional and national systems of innovation; technology adoption and innovation practices in firms; geographical clustering of knowledge-intensive economic activity; local, regional and national policy to promote innovation and economic development; cultural industries and the creative economies of cities; and economic change in the Toronto region. Much of his current research is comparative in nature, examining economic and social change in Canadian, U.S., and European city-regions.

Dr. Gertler holds a PhD from Harvard University (1983), received his MCP in 1979 from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA (Hons) from McMaster University in 1977.
