Mark Belmonte is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Belmonte’s research focuses on plant and cell biology, genomics, plant microbe interactions, and plant pathogenesis. He began his academic career at the University of Calgary where he received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Plant Biology, a PhD in Plant Science at the University of California Davis, and post-doctoral research work as a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellow Scholar at the University of California Davis. Dr. Belmonte’s research has been recognized by the University of Manitoba, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Canadian Society of Plant Biologists, and the Winnipeg Foundation.
