The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is looking for a bilingual (French/English) communication specialist to join our team of diverse professionals committed to supporting evidence-informed policy- and decision-making in Canada. We are seeking an organized communicator with strong initiative, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to help convey the value of evidence in informing public policy. The communication specialist reports to the director of communications, but actively participates as a member of multiple project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of corporate and project-specific communications strategies.
  • Develop engaging, bilingual content—including reports, web and social media materials, infographics, and videos—that communicates complex scientific evidence clearly and accurately.
  • Review and translate brief French-language content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accessibility across all communications and short texts.
  • Monitor and curate French-language media and social media, and help build and maintain strong relationships with Francophone stakeholders.
  • Monitor emerging communications trends and propose proactive opportunities to increase the reach and impact of CCA work.
  • Collaborate closely with subject-matter experts and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and visual appeal.
  • Support strategic outreach activities that strengthen awareness of the CCA and uptake of its  assessments.
  • Provide support to the director of communications, including drafting correspondence and organizing meetings, when required.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant communications or content-creation experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in both English and French. (Essential)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across disciplines.
  • Proficiency with digital and multimedia tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, social media platforms).
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A university degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.

This is a full-time in-office position; however CCA staff can currently work remotely up to 3 days/week.

The hiring salary range for this position is $69,446-$75,225.

If strong candidates fall short of meeting the full qualifications for the role, the CCA may explore the option of appointing the individual to a more junior-level position with a corresponding salary adjustment.
