Bilingual Communication and Translation Specialist

Location: On-site in Ottawa or remote from anywhere in Canada

Hiring range: $61,226 to $76,226

Secondment proposals are welcome.

The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is looking for a versatile and bilingual communicator to fill a key role in our team of diverse professionals committed to supporting evidence-informed policy and practice in Canada.

The Bilingual Communication and Translation Specialist provides communications support to CCA projects, advising research teams on effective dissemination and mobilization strategies and creating evidence-informed and engaging content across a variety of platforms. They also play a lead role in all French-language communication activities at the CCA – from tweets to reports to events.

The CCA is focused on evidence and powered by people. Our reports provide a trusted source of credible information for decision makers across a variety of sectors, including government, industry, academia, and healthcare. Our assessments bring multidisciplinary experts together to evaluate the best available evidence on particularly complex issues where the science may be challenging to understand, contradictory, or difficult to assemble. Our reports are independent, non-partisan, and seek to inform ― rather than influence ― public policy in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of corporate and assessment communication activities
  • Provide communications support to assessment teams and expert panels
  • Produce communications products related to assessments (news releases, summaries, Q&A) across a variety of platforms
  • Liaise with translation contractors and research teams to ensure consistent and high-quality French products
  • Maintain translation tools and processes, including French style guide 
  • Perform quality assurance and revision on translated content, including assessment reports and corporate documents and communication products
  • Translate brief, time-sensitive content
  • Monitor and curate French-language media and social media
  • Maintain CCA core principles of independence, objectivity and quality

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills in both French and English
  • Expertise in creating accessible, evidence-based content across a variety of platforms
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media principles and practices
  • Familiarity with translation processes and tools, and demonstrated ability to perform brief translations
  • Significant experience in project planning and management
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of multidisciplinary professionals
  • Superior attention to detail
  • A university degree (graduate degree preferred)

Bilingualism is essential for this position. Language testing may be required for all candidates.
