Cynthia Goh is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. She is a physical chemist whose research focuses on complex systems, biomaterials, interfaces, probe microscopy, nanotechnology, and the development of new research instrumentation.
Her research examines phenomena at length scales ranging from tens to thousands of angstroms, with particular emphasis on small structures and interfaces. Her work has led to innovations in nanotechnology and biosensing, including diffraction-based biosensing for the detection of biomolecules and a platform approach for producing nanoparticles. These technologies have been developed toward applications in areas such as medical diagnostics, drug discovery, and precision agriculture.
Dr. Goh has also played a significant role in entrepreneurship and experiential education at the University of Toronto. She founded the Impact Centre and was the inaugural Academic Director of U of T Entrepreneurship. Her work in entrepreneurship education and innovation has been recognized through several honours, including the 2021 Joan E. Foley Quality of Student Experience Award and the 2021 NSERC Synergy Award for Innovation.
Dr. Goh holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also completed postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia University and the University of California.
